It is important to know the tidal variations at one location when making nautical charts and maps, determining borders for land properties, construction of structures seashore etc. A height or depth in a nautical chart or a map is always related to a given level (datum). A Norwegian nautical chart has several reference levels, and they are all based on mean sea level and the tidal range at the location. The reference levels are determined by analysing many years with water level observations.
You will find the tidal levels for the 23 Norwegian Standard Ports here.
